What is an apprenticeship?

Your apprentice employee will get flexible training and a qualification designed for your industry. You can use apprenticeships to attract new talent or upskill existing staff.

There are over 120 different apprenticeship training programmes available, so you can find one to suit your specific business needs. Whether you’re looking to improve your long-term talent pool or address skills gaps, the Scottish apprenticeship programme offers flexible options to suit your business needs. Modern Apprenticeships allow your new or existing employees to work towards an approved qualification while they learn and work productively as part of the workforce. The SfS delivery team will visit the apprentices within the workplace which ensures that the trainees derive the maximum benefit from their apprenticeship by allowing them to ‘Earn while they Learn’.

Funding

The Scottish Government will contribute towards the training costs associated with your apprentice education. Funding will depend on the age of the apprentice as well as the type and level of training. There are enhanced levels of funding available for young people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic backgrounds and those who have experience of care.
